A Norwegian Navy frigate was deployed off the coast of Bergen to conduct a firing exercise using a Meggitt Defence Systems Sprite II marine target system. The Sprite II was deployed from the frigate at sea and controlled from ship using the Norwegian Navy’s Wizard control station that is also used to operate Banshee aerial targets.
During the 5 hour exercise the Sprite II towed a sub target at a speed of 20 knots. The sub target was engaged by 7.62mm, 0.50 calibre and 76mm guns, and sustained a number of hits. The Norwegian Navy stated that valuable training value was gained from the exercise.
