This telescoping platform simulates a tactical helicopter threat. Originally developed by Boeing and the Canadian Government in the 1980s and further engineered by QinetiQ, it has been used extensively by the Canadian Forces and other international customers for air target training against threats such as the Havoc, Hind-D and Hokum helicopters.
The pop-up helicopter target system consists of an accurate 3-D, powered target, mounted on a road-certified trailer. Rotating blades provide the required blade flash for radar tracking. It can be lifted to a height of 40 feet in just 15 seconds, and the entire helicopter can be rotated during and after the lift to present a realistic threat. The pop-up helicopter is controlled by a ruggedized laptop for rapid field deployment.
